Sarah Douglas is 23 years old and is from Stockport. She began piano at the age of 7 and clarinet at the age of 10. In 1998 she went on to study both instruments at Chetham’s School of Music with teachers Susan Bettaney and Andrew Wilson, where she was awarded the ‘Larrson Wind’ and ‘Orchestral Wind’ prizes. She is a post graduate clarinet student at the Royal College of Music where she has recently won the ‘Selmer Clarinet Prize’. Her teachers are Timothy Lines and Barnaby Robson. She has also been awarded the 'Stephen Trier Prize' for bass clarinet and learns with Michael Harris and Paul Richards.

She has played in masterclasses given by distinguished players such as Colin Bradbury, Walter Boykens, James Campbell, Pascal Moragues, Joan Enric Lluna and Mark Van de Weil.

Biography

Solo and chamber concerts include performances at the CASS Clarinet Congress at the RNCM, Saint Georges Brandon Hill, the re-opening of the Royal Festival Hall, a performance of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto and corporate events at Manchester Law Courts and Rolls-Royce and Bentley. Sarah also has great enthusiasm for outreach work, giving performances and workshops at schools, hospices and retirement homes through Live Music Now and with her woodwind trio W3.

She has performed in orchestras conducted by Roger Norrington, Diego Masson, Mark Elder and Yan Pascal Tortelier with concerts at Dartington Festival, Malvern Summer Proms, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Royal Festival Hall, Cadogan Hall, LSO St Lukes, a BBC Radio 3 broadcast from the Bridgewater Hall and more recently a joint project between the RCM and the English National Ballet
